You will notice that when I push down with my thumb the amount of bounce in the board. You will also notice the calking in this area is separating. One of the main problems with a deck that leaks is that you can’t wash the boat down. Notice the bird droppings. Teak decks need to be washed down with saltwater in order to protect them and keep the wood expanded. The expansion keeps the caulking tight and that is what keeps the water out. This is a vicious circle of trying to repair the decks in the time allotted on the weekends and at the same time protect the wood with saltwater.
