Immigration Reform

The United States Congress needs to pass some form of immigration reform. We can’t allow our elected officials leave important legislation on the table for some future group of people to contend with. Some incremental plan needs to be defined now.

What most folks fail to realize is that legislation can be changed. Let’s say that we modify the immigration laws somewhat and see what happens. If it doesn’t work we change them again and again until it does. Perform a peer review every 6 to 12 months on what is working and what isn’t and report back to congress.

It is my opinion that we should not legalize illegal immigrants. I believe that sets a bad precedent for people to follow. The US needs these workers to fill jobs that our over entitled; uneducated, lazy children don’t want to perform.

I believe that the best solution is to create a guest worker program. This program would allow an existing immigrant or a new immigrant working status in the US for a period of five years. Every five year term the worker would have to return to their home country for at least one year before returning. While the worker was in the US he or she would be documented, pay taxes, and should be able to show sponsorship by an employer. This does not mean that a worker could not change jobs or even be unemployed for certain periods of time. The last thing I want is for an unscrupulous employer to take advantage of a guest worker.

Give it some thought and then let your elected officials know your thoughts. Some incremental change is required.
